Greece’s 2013 Representative, Agathon Iakovidis, Dies

Agathon Iakovidis, who represented Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 together with Koza Mostra, has passed away.

Agathon lakovidis was born in Evangelismos, in the Lagada province in 1955. He was devoted to rebetiko music, loyally serving it since 1973, refusing to sing any other – even more popular- styles. In 1977, lakovidis created the Rebetiko band of Thessaloniki and he released two records. In 1981 he moved to Athens, where he worked with famous Greek musicians.

In 2013, he spontaneously collaborated with Greek rock band Koza Mostra, founded by Ilias Kozas in 2011. Together, they took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013 where they finished 6th in the Grand Final with the song Alcohol Is Free.

Agathon was 65.
